Battling air pollution with solar powered EVs

Sustainable on-campus mobility solution

Fighting air pollution

Air pollution generated by fossil fuel driven vehicles is a global concern which needs to be addressed by innovative designs that use natural energy resources. Poor air quality continues to be a critical issue for people living in cities and in industrial zones. Efforts have begun towards developing pollution free, green mobility solutions. Today’s students need to learn and adopt these advanced technologies and help to develop innovative solutions.

Solar electric powered passenger vehicle for on-campus mobility

A team of students and professors from Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering (PCCoE), has developed a solar-electric passenger vehicle and EV solar charging station. Students of Team Solarium, as they named their team, have designed, manufactured, and deployed a solar-electric commuting vehicle along with a charging station for on campus mobility.  The project enabled students to develop research and design skills and to develop open source solutions while further advancing the awareness of the need for innovative renewable energy solutions.

In unison with the Indian government’s launch of the E-Mobility program envisioning 100% electric vehicles by 2030, Team Solarium at Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering (PCCoE) is more than thrilled to develop a solar powered vehicle. Students who worked on this project have learned valuable tools, which will take them one step ahead of others in being “industry ready.

Sustainable solutions for improving air quality

By working collaboratively in the engineering institute’s Product Innovation Lab,  students receive hands-on learning experience and help create a roadmap for further research and exploration of  pollution free vehicles powered by renewable energy. The project helps promote green mobility and commuting and helps contribute to the India National Mission to have 100% Evs by 2030.

PCCoE will also share their research and design results with other college Product Innovation Labs.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

Adopted by all United Nations Member States, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. Dassault Systèmes La Fondation PCCoE Product Innovation Lab project supports three of these goals: Quality Education, Affordable and Clean Energy and Partnerships for the Goals.
